Heelo green souls out there, i have a big news for you. Green phones don’t have to be boring, low on specs and glare and Sony Ercsson wants to prove that by throwing in the game 2 phones with GreenHeart™ credentials and nice features like 5MP cameras, social networking, noice cancelling bluetooth headphones and media players. This seems like an obvious step toward eco-friendly phones, the following step to solar powered phones. Read the full specs and details on Sony Ericsson’s website.

On the green side they mention:

• Recycled plastics • E-manual in phone • Free from hazardous chemicals • Low power consumption charger (EP300 GreenHeart™) • Walk Mate eco application • Green calculator • Minimized packaging • Condensed user guide (VH700) • Waterborne paint (VH700)

That’s great! What’s really nice about it is that it doesn’t look “green” at all. Why do my environmentally friendly items have to look like I picked them up from the garbage?

  • realthor says:

Yes, that’s why green design is getting more and more attention among designers as they learn about new materials and old ones (read toxic, polluting, land-filling, petroleum-based, etc). For now the green credentials of these phones may not be outstanding but it’s the first steps…and if you ask me some big ones (no toxic chemicals like brominated fire retardants and the like). But even as recycling is ok, i’d rather recycle some bioplastic and not rely on petroleum for plastics…and a few more.
Anyway heats down for some big and important steps in the right direction. (HEY SONY!! Smartphone, anyone? ;))

  • Handsome Matt says:

A green smartphone would be amazing! And if they could include an auto shutoff in the charger so it doesn’t continue to draw current when nothing is plugged in, would be even better!
